“If you’re looking for a personal yet professional photographer in the DMV area look no further. Sarah was incredible to work with. I had my newborn session with Sarah and they came out better than I believed they could. After having a rough birth that led to a C section I didn’t feel like I looked my best but the photos Sarah took made me feel great. I will forever cherish the pictures and will be happy to go back to Sarah for the next newborn session. Thank you for your incredible work. Don’t look any further, book Sarah while you can!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When should I book a newborn session?

It’s best to book when you are at 20 weeks to ensure a spot on my calendar, as a DC newborn photographer I only schedule a limited number of newborn sessions a month. Once baby is delivered, we will confirm the date.

Q. Where does the session take place?

Your newborn photography session can take place in my studio in Old Town Alexandria at 113 S. Saint Asaph Street, or in your home in Northern Virginia or D.C.

Q. When do we photograph my newborn?

Newborn babies are ideal to photograph between 7-14 days old, when they are still sleeping most of the time and enjoy being swaddled. If for some reason you would like to schedule at a later date with your, that is fine too and we will still be able to capture many beautiful images of your baby.

Q. How long does the session take?

I schedule newborn sessions in the morning around 9:30-10am and they typically last 2-3 hours.  The session is very relaxed.  We won’t be taking pictures the entire time, but we’ll take time for breaks or to soothe or feed the baby if needed.  Your DC newborn photography session includes individual pictures of the baby and pictures of the baby with family.

Q. What should I wear?

I suggest neutral colors because they are classic and don’t “age” or go out of style. Small pops of colors will work, but you always want to stick to muted tones, versus saturated/vibrant colors. I have several dresses for mom in my studio wardrobe that you are welcome to wear, as well as wraps for baby. I am also happy to help you plan your outfits!

Q. Can I bring big brother/sister?

Absolutely! I love photographing the whole family, although the focus will be on the baby.

Q. Do you use props?

I do not use props or costumes. My main focus is on the connection between you, your family and your new baby. In the studio or at home, we will create a cozy, loving atmosphere so we can get plenty of photos of everyone cuddling and loving your new bundle of joy.
