A Shenandoah Proposal

This session was definitely one for the books! Chelsea is the one who initially contacted me to schedule a session for her and Charlie, and then a couple of weeks later he messaged me and said he was thinking about proposing! I was SO excited and we put together a plan: I would take them to my favorite 3 spots for photos, and at the 3rd and last spot I would tell them to stand back to back, that I wanted to try something different, and that would be his signal! Everything went perfectly – an incredible breeze, lots of

Skyline Drive Family Session

These little girls rode all the way down from northern VA with their mom and dad for these family photos and were full of energy when they arrived! I try to make sessions with little ones as fun as possible – we look for plants, bugs, and rocks, and definitely don’t stay in one spot too long. There were some beautiful wildflowers in the meadow when we arrived – I love the way tall flowers and grass filter the evening light!

Shenandoah Summer Family Session

I always look forward to doing sessions for other photographers and their families!! Lauren and I have crossed paths quite a few times in the past couple of years – we first met at a styled shoot in Forest, VA, and then I got to know her when we took a year-long class together. After that we planned a styled shoot of our own with 2 other VA photographers! I LOVED getting to meet her family of 6, hiking up to the overlook and documenting a little of their time together this summer. Even though it was July, the air

Shenandoah Sunrise Anniversary

There’s nothing like waking up at 4:15 a.m., meeting your couple in the pitch dark with fog drifting in front of your headlights, and hiking up to the top of a mountain with headlamps. Is it worth it just for a photo shoot? 100% YES. When we reached the top and stepped out on the rocks it felt like we were in another world. As the pink sun peeked through the clouds, the clouds and fog drifted across the mountains while the lighting changed by the minute. Happy 5th anniversary, Brittany and Dustin! I am so happy to have had

Woodland Elopement Styled Shoot

How do you create a woodland styled shoot in the DC suburbs? 1. Find your inspiration. I decided on an elopement theme –¬† I was inspired by several couples who contacted me early this year to photograph their elopements, engagements, and micro-weddings. The small wedding and elopement trend allows a more intimate and personalized experience, whether it is 2 people saying their vows on top of a mountain, or a few friends and family gathering for a beautiful backyard ceremony. A native Virginian, I have always loved quiet paths, woodland trails and textures that can be only found in nature.

Hello, I’m Sarah! Nothing would make me happier than documenting your family in my Old Town Alexandria studio or in one of the many gorgeous locations in northern VA or Washington, DC.
