A Stormy Shenandoah Adventure

Emily and her family drove close to 3 hours to meet me for this shoot, and it was one of the sessions I had planned as part of an overnight mentorship. My mentee Stephanie came from Texas and I couldn’t wait for our first shoot together … but when we met up in the parking lot the sky was dark and a storm was passing through. It was a little stressful, as I definitely didn’t want to cancel, so we kept an eye on the radar and when there was a break in the rain we headed up the mountain. When we got to the top it was BEAUTIFUL and sunny! I was so relieved but knew Stephanie and I would need to work fast because more storms were headed our way. By the time we got to the last stop (with my favorite views) dark clouds were moving in and as usual I got totally absorbed in what I was doing and wasn’t paying too much attention to the sky! Shayne mentioned a couple of times that he thought the clouds were headed towards us and just as we got the last shots this incredible wind started whipping all around us. We grabbed our things and what started as a fast walk to get back to the trail turned into a jog all the way down the mountain as thunder cracked overhead and the skies opened up. We got throughly SOAKED. I was holding hands with Penelope, Shayne was carrying Silas and laughing, and we all were just trying to run back to the car as fast as possible. One of the best memories of the summer for sure!!
