Sky Meadows Engagement Session

Sky Meadows State Park was the perfect location for Karen and Larry’s session – they love hiking and the outdoors, and that’s where they got engaged last year! The day they chose turned out to be VERY special because it was not only Karen’s birthday, but they were closing on their first home that afternoon!!

Karen told me a couple of weeks before our session that they had just gotten married in Old Town, and in her words, “It was a small, simple and beautiful day. We felt so grateful.”  They then spent a weekend in a cabin in Sapphire, NC and said they were blown away by the beauty out there, so that is now on my list of places to visit this summer! I love when I get recommendations for new places to visit and explore, especially if it’s within a few hours’ driving distance.

When I woke up at 6 am I looked out the window and my neighborhood was blanketed in mist and fog. You have to be ready for any condition when you schedule an early morning session, and I knew everything could change quickly even in an hour. By the time I met up with them in the parking lot, it was cool, overcast and clear, we had gorgeous views and visibility, and I was so excited to get started. Karen looked amazing in an orange dress that was the perfect complement with the spring greens, and she and Larry were so relaxed in front of the camera. We had a couple of minutes where we felt some mist but the rain held off and the sun even came out a couple of times!

As we walked and I snapped and we chatted, we spotted a little field of tall grass and white dried flowers and I knew that would be the perfect spot to finish up our session. They stood together, laughing and making it so easy for me to get this last round of photos before they moved on to all of their exciting plans for the day. Congrats Karen and Larry, I am so happy for you both!
