31 May Friday Focus: Nature-Inspired Spring Session
I’ve done portraits for 3 women with red hair over the past year and I love the way they turned out! Last weekend I was able to get 6 redheads all in the same place for a fun styled session. Two (sisters) drove up from Charlottesville, one drove down from Maryland, one came from Vienna and two were local in my neighborhood. I was hoping for golden hour sun but was also happy with the overcast day – it created a completely different mood. I used a Canon 35mm 2.8 lens for all of the shots and I always use natural/available light with no flash. I styled the clothes with an eclectic mix of dresses I’ve been collecting specifically for this type of shoot. The beautiful rose & thistle flower crown I used for the portraits was designed by VA Florist. I’m not used to posing people for this style portrait, (especially 6!) and it took a few different groupings and a lot of little adjustments to get the arrangement I really liked. We took individual portraits and just as we were getting ready to leave, the setting sun appeared through the trees! It was beautiful and only lasted a couple of minutes. Shanna had just left because I thought we were done so she isn’t in that one! 🙁 We all had a blast and I’m already thinking of where we can do the next one in the fall.
